August 27, 2020 Brenton Tarrant, the 29-year-old Australian who killed 51 people in March 2019 and injured 40 others in two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, during Friday prayers, was sentenced today to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

It is the first time in the history of New Zealand that this penalty has been imposed, the New Zealand media stressed today.

Reading the sentence, Judge Cameron Mander defined the actions of the man, who "showed no mercy", "inhumane", after listening to the stories of 91 people, including wounded, witnesses and relatives of the victims in the last three days.
