In the midst of a standoff between TikTok and the American administration, the CEO of the very popular social network, Kevin Mayer, announced in a press release on Wednesday that he was leaving the company.

"It is with a heavy heart that I announce that I have decided to leave the company," wrote Kevin Mayer, in a letter to his employees.

TikTok soon to be banned in the United States?

A decision that comes after Donald Trump's decisions against the Chinese video-sharing application. The American President accuses the application, whose parent company, ByteDance is Chinese, of spying on its American users and therefore of posing a danger to "national security, foreign policy and the economy of the United States".

The billionaire also signed, on August 6, a decree prohibiting the application of any transaction with American partners within 45 days. The decree does not specify the practical consequences, but the ban on any transaction with the two companies could force Google and Apple to remove the two networks from their app stores, effectively preventing them from being used in the United States. Last week, the app announced that it would file a complaint against the US government.
