A huge success despite the coronavirus crisis. The village of San Giovanni in Galdo (Italy) and its neighbors received more than 8,000 reservation requests after the launch in June of a campaign to promote the Molise region, reports HuffPost .

Amici del Morutto, a local association, indeed offered free stays on site in order to attract vacationers despite the health crisis. Tourists from all over the world have come forward. "We did not expect such enthusiasm", reacted the president of the association. “We have received around 70 requests from Kazakhstan, some from remote Russian cities…”

The small Italian village of San Giovanni in Galdo, in the Molise region, had the good idea to offer accommodation to its visitors in order to boost tourism. The success of the operation was such that reservations are full for the entire season. pic.twitter.com/hE6CuH83o2

A place to visit absolutely

The requests quickly exceeded the accommodation capacities but the promise will be honored. "We will welcome a total of 250 tourists [...] until October 3," says the leader. The operation is now closed and officials had to make choices and establish criteria. To benefit from a free week in San Giovanni in Galdo or in the surroundings, it was necessary, for example, not to live in the Molise region or to have relatives there.

Last January, before the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, the New York Times placed this region of southern Italy on its list of "52 places to go in 2020". "If you are looking for a traditional and unrestrained Italy, you have found it", then indicated the American media.
