The emirate of Dubai, represented by its municipality, was chosen to host the “UAE branch of the International Building Information Modeling Standards Organization”, which is the first of its kind in the region for the organization that aims to lead the global digital transformation in the construction sector of buildings, assets and infrastructure facilities, by establishing and adopting standards A unified digital global design for buildings, facilities and project work phases, helping owners, consultants, contractors and operators work more efficiently.
The director general of the municipality, Eng. Dawood Al-Hajri, stated that this achievement comes within the framework of international appreciation for the ongoing development efforts in Dubai, the Emirates in general, and in various fields, including the construction sector.
The choice of Dubai to host the Emirates branch of the world organization comes in its first representation in the region as a testament to the efforts to develop this vital sector, which is one of the basic building blocks of the development process and a pillar of the urban and urban renaissance, while Dubai continues its efforts in the comprehensive transformation towards a digital environment, including This trend has the effect of accelerating the pace of work, enhancing the level of productivity, improving quality, preserving the environment, and other positive repercussions.
The municipality has formed a working group to lead the digital transformation in the construction sector and the application of “building information modeling”, to keep pace with the trend in the sector towards the use of digital systems and modern technologies, including building information modeling technology, due to the benefits it achieves during the life cycle of the facility, by reducing costs Shortening the implementation time, increasing the efficiency of construction and operation processes, providing the necessary information on buildings to provide smart services, and increasing the opportunities for using 3D printing in construction.
He pointed out that the municipality has launched a project to design a roadmap for the application of building information modeling, to develop unified standards, and to devise mechanisms that help improve and accelerate the issuance of construction and building licenses, through automatic checking of building requirements regulations and an integrated link between building information and geographic information systems.
The questionnaire that was prepared as part of the project showed that about 70% of consultants and contractors in Dubai use Building Information Modeling in their projects, that 40% use it widely and advanced, and that 72% of engineering companies that do not currently apply this technology plan to use it during The next five years.
The state’s hosting of the organization’s branch will contribute to strengthening its global leadership in the field of digital transformation and innovation in the construction sector, as it is ranked among the best countries in the international competitiveness reports in the ease of issuing construction and building licenses, and the UAE ranked first in the Arab world and third globally in this field in the bank’s report. International Conference on "Doing Business" for the current year.
The UAE branch will focus on contributing to supporting the digital transformation of the construction sector in the country through cooperation with all government agencies, private companies and specialized educational institutions, in addition to effective participation in the various work groups of the International Building Information Modeling Standards Organization, and automatic verification of building conditions regulations. And digital twinning, as well as contributing to the development, development and application of global open source standards, to enhance integration between building information modeling and geographic information systems, as well as enabling information sharing and improving working methods and cooperation between entities whose work is related to the design, construction and management of building and infrastructure assets, in addition to raising The level of awareness about the importance of using standardized global standards for building information modeling.
- «The UAE is the third in the world in the ease of obtaining a building permit, according to the World Bank indicators.
- “Dubai Municipality has formed a team for digital transformation in the construction sector and (Building Information Modeling).”
