American Airlines intends to spray its aircraft with a disinfectant that will form a protective layer that eliminates viruses, in a new attempt to reassure passengers.

Developed by Allied Biosciences in Texas, the sterilizer has just been approved by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), according to the airline.

The airline said, "While other sterile nebulizers provide temporary cleaning, Surface 2 remains the first and only sterilizer that protects against viruses that is approved by Iba and has proven that it eliminates the emerging corona virus on surfaces even after the accumulation of new germs."

And American Airlines intends to start using it "in the coming months" on the surfaces inside its aircraft, to gradually adopt it in its entire fleet.

This sterilizer will protect passengers and crew from the transmission of Covid-19 infection through surfaces, especially areas that are frequently touched, such as seats, cushions, food trays and doors.

The manufacturer stated that the sterilizer can be used in offices, schools and gymnasiums.

Airlines, which have been suffering at the heart of the collapse in airline ticket sales since the start of the pandemic, are trying in various ways to reassure passengers who are wary of spending several hours in a confined space with strangers on board.

Major airlines have circulated mandatory wearing of a muzzle during flights. Some companies have banned sitting in the middle seats.
