Argentinian Juan Martin del Potro, ex-world No. 3, who dropped to 132nd place, underwent surgery for the third time on his right knee since the Shanghai tournament in October 2018, his spokesperson said in a statement. published Wednesday.

"In recent months, Delpo has followed the advice of his doctors and even tested his knee on a tennis court in Buenos Aires, but the pain persisted," the statement said. "After their first meeting in Bern, Switzerland, (her surgeon) recommended a new operation."

The Argentinian is truly cursed: the one who was predicted to have a very great career after his title at the US Open in September 2009, at the age of 20, saw it marred by injuries: he is now seven major operations since.

In addition to his three right knee operations, he underwent surgery on the right wrist in 2010, and on the left wrist in March 2014, January 2015 and June 2015.

Despite these twists of fate, he had managed to climb a second time in the final of a Grand Slam, the US Open again, in 2018.

Del Potro has not played a single match since his retirement in the 2nd round of the Queen's tournament, preceding Wimbledon, in June 2019.
