• Laura Valenzuela. Laura Valenzuela: and to be fired from a clothing store because of the Duchess of Alba, to be the first presenter of TVE

The love conquers all. When Paco Rabal fell in love with Asunción Balaguer they didn't have all of them with them. He was the son of a Murcian miner and she belonged to the Catalan bourgeoisie, but the magic of the show worked the miracle despite the difference in classes. Paco proposed to him on a bus trip from Córdoba to Algeciras. In 1951 they got married. Asunción wore black. Premonition?. They had two children, Teresa (1952) and Benito (1954).

The Blood Laces program dedicates its program to this beloved, admired and talented marriage that features the exclusive statements of Teresa and Benito Rabal.

When they said "yes, I do," the actress already knew that her husband was a don Juan. In fact, shortly before the link he continued to have carnal relations with the actress Isabel de Pomés, with whom he had filmed Blood Moon. And during their marriage, there were many who tasted that mountain body, among others, María Asquerino and possibly the Duchess of Alba, who with the euphemism that they had a very special friendship, settled the issue.

Paco couldn't help it. He was one of the most seductive and conquering gallants in the history of national cinema. He wanted many, but he only wanted one. That was Asuncion. He always forgave him those little balls in the air and even that he didn't come home to sleep. However, after the interpreter's death in 2001 at age 75, he learned of one of his biggest sins. Paco had had a secret child with one of his lovers. "I would never have forgiven him for that and I would have even left," he confessed on occasion.

Asuncion stifled and swallowed. But she was in love to the core. Despite having temporarily retired from the profession to dedicate himself to his children, he had a film career (Perseguidos, La hora bruja, Barcelona noche de Invierno), theatrical (Life is a dream, El pisito, Follies) and television (Juncal, La casa de los mesos, Los misterios de Laura, Merlí) absolutely enviable. Paco always had it clear: "Asunción, at first, was my lover, then my sister, and later, my mother."

Rabal is still synonymous with royalty. A close friend of Picasso, Buñuel, Mingote or Gila, the Águilas interpreter shot authentic film gems such as Nazarín (1959) and Viridiana (1961) -both by Buñuel-, La colmena (1982) Los santos inocentes (1984) -both by Mario Camus- and on television he starred in milestones of the stature of Fortunata and Jacinta (1980), Teresa de Jesús (1984) or Juncal (1989). Asunción died in November 2019 due to a multi-organ failure at the age of 94.
