Chinanews.com, August 26. What is the current situation of autumn grain production? Is there a guarantee for a bumper harvest in the future? In response, Pan Wenbo, director of the Plant Management Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, responded on the 26th.

On the morning of the 26th, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs held a press conference on the current grain market operation and production. In response to a reporter’s question, Pan Wenbo said that with the promotion of the central government’s policies to support local work, from the current point of view, this year’s grain production situation is generally good, and summer grains and early rice have been successfully received. Summer grains increased by 2.42 billion catties, and early rice increased by 2.06 billion catties. The sum of these two seasons was 4.48 billion catties. This has won the initiative for a bumper harvest throughout the year.

"But the bulk of the annual grain production is autumn grain." Pan Wenbo pointed out that autumn grain accounts for three-quarters of the annual grain. The key to achieving a bumper harvest throughout the year depends on autumn grain.

Pan Wenbo said that this year's autumn grain harvest has a certain foundation, mainly in two points: First, the planting area will increase. It is initially estimated that the autumn grain area this year will be 1.284 billion mu, an increase of more than 5 million mu. Second, the growth of autumn grain is generally normal.

"Autumn grain is the bulk of the country’s grain, and the bulk of autumn grain is in the Northeast. Last year, the Northeast’s grain output was 349.3 billion jin, and the autumn grain was close to 1 trillion jin, accounting for 35%. At present, the corn in the northeast is well pollinated in the early stage, and the filling is good. Soybeans have been swollen, and rice has been pressed into rings, that is, ears have been pressed. The yield has begun, and it has begun to gradually decline. But some time ago, some counties in western Liaoning and Mengdong were affected by drought and the growth was deviated, but other places The growth is relatively balanced, and a bumper harvest is in sight." Pan Wenbo said that there are still several areas for autumn grain, Huanghuaihai and the northwest are mainly corn. Our country belongs to the dry farming area. This year, the moisture in the northwest is good, and Huanghuaihai has not suffered any damage. Therefore, the growth of maize in Huanghuaihai and Northwest China is also good. The autumn crops in Southwest and South China are mainly rice, and the growth is generally normal. Especially the big autumn grain provinces that everyone pays attention to, such as Heilongjiang, Jilin, Shandong, and Henan, where the growth of crops in the main producing provinces has been a good year in the past few years.

Pan Wenbo also pointed out that objectively speaking, this year's agrometeorological year in my country is generally biased. Flood disasters are heavier than normal, especially the southern flood disasters are heavier than normal. However, droughts are generally lighter. Floods mainly affect parts of the Yangtze River basin, which are partial and phased and will not affect the overall situation. The drought is mainly concentrated in western Liaoning and eastern Inner Mongolia. There are several counties at the junction of western Liaoning and eastern Inner Mongolia, Hanwozi, a traditional arid area, which lasts not long and has limited impact. The pests and diseases that you may be more concerned about this year are Spodoptera frugiperda and the "two migration" pests of rice. These are all year-round and heavy. The base number in the early period of this year is relatively high. However, we have put four lines of defense against Spodoptera frugiperda. It is better than we expected. According to our monitoring and analysis, no major harm has been caused.

In addition, Pan Wenbo said that historically, the rainy years may be heavily flooded locally, and paddy fields may be affected to some extent, but dryland crops are growing well, especially maize. In 1998, our country experienced a very serious and historically rare flood disaster. The paddy fields were severely affected that year, and the rice yield decreased by 4 billion catties, but the corn increased by more than 57 billion catties that year. Therefore, the grain output that year hit a record high, reaching 1,024.6 billion catties.

Pan Wenbo said that the rainfall did hit a certain area or a certain farmer household, or if it was washed away, and it became poor, it might have no harvest as soon as it washed this piece of land. It might be a piece of land in the autumn grain area. Our country is the main country with dry farming. We have about 1 billion mu of dry farming area, which is fed by rain. Therefore, it has pros and cons to a certain extent. The agricultural proverb says, "Drought and flood are scheduled for July 15th, and the harvest is scheduled for August 15th." This year is a leap month. September 2 is the seventh month of the lunar calendar. Yesterday is July 7th. Today is July 8th. At present, there are still about 40 days before the harvest of autumn grains. This period is a critical period for the formation of autumn grain production. In fact, it is also a prone period of frequent disasters. There is still one week before the "July 15th day of drought and flood". Autumn drought, lodging caused by typhoons, early frosts in the north, cold dew winds in the south, and pests and diseases. What we are most worried about here is the typhoon in late August and early September, because the typhoon at this time is when the crops are top-heavy. , The crops have been filled, the ears of corn are very large, and the ears of rice are very large. If a typhoon blows at this time, it will easily cause lodging. This is what we are most worried about.

"In the next step, we will follow the decision and deployment of the Party Central Committee to fight against disasters and win a bumper harvest. We will be tightly linked and never fail. We will strengthen classification guidance, implement later field management measures, and go all out to win a good harvest of autumn crops to ensure this year. Grain output has stabilized at 1.3 trillion catties, achieving a good harvest of food and agriculture in a well-off year," said Pan Wenbo.
