Aida Badeli, spokesperson for Green Youth, thinks that the solution to reversing the Green Party's weak voter support is to make a left turn.

- We need to start talking about something other than climate and the environment, namely social justice. The Green Party must start talking about economically fair politics where we also dare to position ourselves to the left. We have been bad at communicating what we stand for and what values we actually believe in.

Costly government cooperation

Gustav Fridolin agrees that the party could have been better at talking about what it has achieved, not least in the environmental field. He believes that if green parties have a support of 15-20 percent in countries such as Germany, Austria and Finland, they should be able to have it in Sweden as well.

The former mouthpiece testifies that government cooperation with the Social Democrats cost money. Now the parties are deeply divided, both on the migration issue and on Swedish carbon dioxide emissions. Many speculate that the MP is close to breaking off cooperation and causing a government crisis.

"Need to stand up"

Aida Badeli on where the line goes when the MP feels compelled to leave the government:

- MP does not accept that carbon dioxide emissions in Sweden increase. It is up to the Social Democrats if they can face their voters at the same time as the country violates the Paris Agreement. We will not be able to compromise on everything, we need to stand up for our principles.

Gustav Fridolin:

- I have worked closely with Isabella and many times we were tough in the negotiation rooms at the same time as we asked ourselves the question was where you as an environmental artist could make the biggest difference. So far, it has been at the government table, but that does not have to be the answer every time.
