• Covid Defense Prepares Trackers to Respond to Increase in Coronavirus Cases

The Defense Minister announced a month ago that the Armed Forces were preparing more than 2,000 trackers to make available to the autonomous communities in need. And yesterday, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, reiterated the offer. Murcia and Galicia have already taken the first steps to request this collaboration.

Despite the fact that it is not expected until next week that they will be ready to join the operational service, both communities have already contacted the Ministry of Defense to inquire about the details. As they have advanced from both communities, Murcia has already requested the participation of the trackers in their fight against the coronavirus and the Xunta de Galicia has sent a letter to Defense showing their interest.

The Murcian Minister of Health, Manuel Villegas, on Wednesday asked the central government for the collaboration of 60 of these 2,000 military trackers, as reported by the regional government. Villegas has detailed, according to Efe, that the requested figure is the one that would correspond to the Region of Murcia by population with respect to the whole of Spain.

Galicia, for its part, has sent a letter to the Ministry of Defense to show its interest and request more information. Defense will present this Thursday the details of how the Armed Forces have trained their Covid trackers and what their collaboration tasks with the autonomous communities may be. From the ministries the open possibility of resorting to military trackers has been received with a good tone.

But they demand more information from the Government. "We are going to ask the Ministry to determine those profiles to see where they can fit in," because, according to the Madrid councilor, Enrique Ruiz, two profiles must be distinguished in the trackers: those who do the epidemiological survey to determine the contacts, which are public health technicians (graduates or graduates), and the operators who call the patient every day to check if that contact is keeping confinement or has symptoms.

And the Madrid councilor has pointed out that "what is more complicated" is having public health technicians. For his part, the Galician Minister of Health, Jesús Vázquez Almuíña, sent a letter to the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, on Wednesday to show the interest of the Galician government in military trackers and request the central Executive to specify it.

The Ministry of Defense published an instruction at the end of July in which it created an early response system to Covid-19 to prevent a possible rebound in cases in the field of the Armed Forces, which included these trackers made available to the civil administration.
