“On August 24, as a result of the joint efforts of the diplomats of the Russian Embassy in Abuja, the Nigerian official authorities and the representative of the ship owner, seven Russian sailors abducted from the Curacao Trader ship on July 17 this year were released. in the course of a robbery in the Gulf of Guinea, ”the department said.

It is noted that at present the sailors "are in the regional headquarters of the Nigerian Navy in Port Harcourt, where they will undergo a medical examination before returning to their homeland." 

In July, it was reported that pirates abducted 13 Russian and Ukrainian sailors from the MV Curacao Trader off the Benin coast in the Gulf of Guinea.
