It was on Tuesday that the Public Health Agency announced that a commercial self-test kit from China had informed completely healthy people that they had an ongoing covid-19 infection.

- In some regions there are a handful of people, in others significantly more, said Karin Tegmark Wisell at the Public Health Agency then.

Increased capacity

Now it turns out that Västra Götaland is one of the hardest hit regions. So far, about 1,500 incorrect answers have been found here. That so many incorrect test results have been submitted in the region, Deputy Regional Chief Physician Marga Brisman explains that very many here tested themselves in June, when the sampling capacity also increased.

The region has not yet been in contact with the people who received the wrong answer. But the plan is to send out text messages to everyone tomorrow Thursday.

- Then we tell that it has gone wrong and that they can now count on that they did NOT have covid. They also receive information on how to behave if they want to take an antibody test for safety, says Marga Brisman.

Sorry - and good

In that situation, you will probably have to contact your health center.

When asked if she thinks it is a scandal that so many test results showed errors, Marga Brisman says that it is "very regrettable and sad".

- But at the same time, the most important thing is that we found it; that we have such good quality control in Sweden that we found this. Now we can inform the rest of the world, because these test kits are used in many countries.

Actually, this is good news: We have said that you were ill, but you are probably healthy ..?

- Yes, that's absolutely. Although that part might have thought it good to hear that they had already covid ...

Even before, residents in Västra Götaland have received incorrect test results, but it has then been a matter of corona tests being mixed up. In the first round in July, it was about 70 pieces and the following week about another 49.

In the clip below, lab staff testify to an unsustainable situation in connection with tests being launched earlier this year:
