China News Agency, Beijing, August 25 (Reporter Li Chun) The Chinese version of "World Migration Report 2020" was released in Beijing on the 25th. The report points out that, after India and Mexico, China is the world's third largest source of international immigrants in 2019, with 10.7 million immigrants living outside of China.

The report was released by António Vitorino, Director-General of the International Organization for Migration (António Vitorino) at the 2019 IOM Council meeting. The Chinese version of the report released this time was compiled by the Globalization Think Tank (CCG). The report analyzes the development of immigration in the past two years, and puts forward an analysis that takes into account historical and contemporary factors.

The report shows that the scale of international migration is increasing. In 1990, the number of international migrants worldwide was 153 million. This number increased to 272 million in 2019, accounting for 3.5% of the world's population. Of these, 52% are men and 48% are women. 74% of international immigrants are of working age, from 20 to 64 years old.

The report shows that India is still the largest source country of international immigrants, with 17.5 million Indian immigrants living abroad. This is followed by Mexico and China, with 11.8 million and 10.7 million respectively. Since 1970, the United States has been the main destination country for international immigrants. The number of immigrants has increased from less than 12 million that year to 50.7 million in 2019.

In terms of remittances, the report stated that the total global remittances in 2018 were US$689 billion, of which US$67.4 billion was remitted to China, which is the second largest remittance in the world after India’s US$78.6 billion.

In addition, the report stated that there is a dynamic and complex relationship between immigration and health, which goes far beyond the scope of crisis events. Investment in immigration and health contributes to the social and economic development of immigrant export and receiving areas.

At the report release and seminar on the 25th, Marie McAuliffe, Director of the Department of Immigration Research and Policy of the United Nations Immigration Agency, said that international migrants, including refugees, are among the people most affected by the new crown pneumonia epidemic. The global recovery after the epidemic will be closely related to the system of international migration and population movement. She also revealed that the 2022 World Migration Report will set up a special chapter to analyze the impact of the new crown pneumonia epidemic on international migration and population mobility.

Since 2000, the International Organization for Migration has issued ten "World Migration Reports." This series of reports is dedicated to a reasonable analysis of immigration issues based on facts, and to improve the understanding of immigration issues by decision makers, practitioners, researchers and the general public.
