Vanity Fair dedicates the cover of the September issue to Breonna Taylor, the 26-year-old African American killed by police last March while sleeping in her home in Louisville, Kentucky.

The photo on the cover shows a portrait of Breanna by Amy Sherald, the same artist who painted the portrait of former United States First Lady Michelle Obama and is now on display at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington.

In the article written by Ta-Nehisi Coates and entitled 'A Beautiful Life' the story of her life is retraced through the eyes and voice of her mother Tamika Palmer. After her death, Breanna became one of the faces of protests in the United States against violent police and racism towards African Americans.
