The grenade deposited at the Nantes police station. - National police

Funny surprise for the reception officers of the Nantes police station on Monday: a man brought them an object strongly resembling an explosive grenade. The individual was fishing with a magnet in the Erdre when he reassembled this metallic device. Thinking to do well, he insisted on dropping it off at the police station.

The demining services were called and confirmed the authenticity and the dangerousness of the grenade. It would therefore have been better to call for help as soon as it was discovered. “Any manipulation can create risks. Do not put yourself in danger, ”recommends the national police.

Several shells and sometimes accidents

More and more widespread, the aquatic search for objects using a large magnet is an illegal practice because it is potentially dangerous. That same Monday, in Guingamp (Côtes d'Armor), it was a real shell from the First World War which was thus taken care of by the deminers after being fished by a resident in the Trieux.

In September 2019, already, an inhabitant of Brains, west of Nantes, had also raised a mortar shell while he was fishing in Acheneau. The discovery was much more painful for a magnet fisherman from the North in May 2019: the man had been burned by poisonous gas which was in the machine seized in a body of water.
