The 52-year-old man was convicted by Varberg District Court for the murder of the woman, preparation for the murder of the woman's acquaintance, abusive photography after setting up eavesdropping and video equipment in the woman's home and aggravated drunk driving. He received a life sentence.

"Extenuating circumstances"

Now he wants the Court of Appeal for Western Sweden to mitigate his sentence as he believes that he was not sufficiently aware to control his actions. His lawyer writes in the appeal that the district court did not take enough account of the fact that the man shortly before the act sought help for his bad mental state and then received medication prescribed that may have affected his actions.

Opposes damages

The 52-year-old also thinks that the damages granted to the woman's acquaintance for preparation for murder should not be paid as the victim may not have known about the plans until the convicted 52-year-old told about them in police interrogation.

On Monday, the hearing was held in the Court of Appeal and a decision is expected within a week. The man must remain in custody until a verdict is announced or otherwise decided.
