The Israeli army fired a number of "flare bombs" near the town of Mays al-Jabal and other Lebanese areas on the border.

Explosions were heard from time to time in the villages and towns of the eastern sector of the border area, caused by the firing of flare bombs by Israel near the Al-Manara settlement, which overlooks the town of Mays Al-Jabal.

An Israeli army spokesman said in a brief statement, "A security incident on the Israeli-Lebanese border ... some roads have been closed ... Details are under examination."

The (official) Israeli Broadcasting Corporation stated that the incident occurred in the Kibbutz (cooperative farm) "Manara" in the Upper Galilee region (north), which is adjacent to the Lebanese border.

The Israeli Channel "12" (especially) quoted sources in the army as saying that shooting occurred from inside Lebanese territory towards an Israeli military force without human casualties or material damage.

The Israeli army issued instructions to towns parallel to the border with Lebanon, warning against any activity, and required to stay in homes and near fortified rooms or shelters.

Israeli media reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is chairing a meeting to discuss developments on the Lebanese borders, as the army fears an infiltration operation inside Israeli territory.

Tensions have escalated on the Lebanese-Israeli borders over the past months, following the record of land, air and sea violations, while the United Nations called for the utmost restraint.
