"Under Secretary of State Stephen Bigan has arrived in Russia to meet with Russian officials, including Russian Foreign Minister (Sergei) Lavrov, to discuss issues of common interest," the statement said.
US Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan said that, in addition to Lavrov, Bigan will meet with Deputy Foreign Ministers of Russia Sergey Ryabkov and Igor Morgulov during his visit to Moscow.
Earlier it was reported that Bigan, during his visit to Moscow, intends to discuss with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov the situation in Belarus and the case of American Paul Whelan, who was sentenced to 16 years in Russia for espionage.
