On Monday, Al-Burhan announced that the armed forces "will not abandon an inch of Sudan's land," referring to the Halayeb and Shalateen area, which are disputed with Cairo and which is under Egyptian sovereignty.
In a speech on the occasion of the 66th anniversary of the army in Wadi Sidna military region in Khartoum state, Al-Burhan said, "We will not leave our right and will not back down and we will not forget it until the flag of Sudan is raised in Halayeb and Shalateen and everywhere in Sudan," according to the official Sudanese News Agency.
He also directed his speech to "the armed forces stationed around Halayeb, Shalateen and Arqin, and all those who defend the country," saying, "We are with you," adding that Sudan "is subjected to a major targeting in its unity and borders."

Last November, al-Burhan said that Halayeb is Sudanese, expressing his hope to reach a consensus with Egypt on her case.
Last July, the head of the Sudanese National Border Commission, Moaz Ahmed Tango, said that the Halayeb and Shalateen Triangle, which is disputed with Egypt, is a 100% Sudanese region, and there is no doubt about that. He added that the Egyptian claims about the dependence of the Halayeb Triangle to Cairo are "null." .
The disputed Halayeb Triangle is located in the southeast corner of Egypt, and it consists of the villages of Halayeb, Abu Ramad and Shalateen, which belong to Egypt politically and administratively, and which Sudan has claimed since 1958, and the region has turned into a point of conflict over sovereignty and tension between the two countries over the past years.
Al-Burhan’s statements come amid the crisis of the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, in which Egypt and Sudan are trying to agree on a unified position towards Addis Ababa’s continued filling in the dam lake without waiting for the conclusion of negotiations.
