A government of technocrats to break the deadlock. Prime Minister-designate Hichem Mechichi announced on the night of Monday to Tuesday the composition of his government, the second in six months in Tunisia, composed of "independent powers", which still has to obtain the approval of Parliament in the days to come .

After consultations, it was decided to form "a government of independent competences which will work to materialize achievements in the economic and social fields", he declared to the press.

A bank boss at the Economy

Many parliamentary parties have said they are unhappy at having been removed from the cabinet, while evoking the need to vote confidence in this government to avoid dragging the country, already struggling economically, towards early legislative elections. This government, which includes only a few outgoing ministers, has eight women out of 28 ministers and secretary of state, many of whom are little known to the general public.

The Ministry of the Economy was entrusted to a bank boss, Ali Kooli, and Foreign Affairs to Othman Jarandi, a career diplomat who had already held this post in 2013 before being diplomatic adviser to Tunisian President Kais Saied.
