Hear Mustafa's and Angelina's story in the clip above (they are actually called something else).
People who need emergency help come to Bergsjön's church because they have ended up outside the security systems for various reasons. It can be unemployed, new arrivals or undocumented.
In normal cases, the church distributes both dry goods and fresh goods delivered from the City Mission, the Rescue Mission and Allwin. But because of the risk of infection, those in need must come to church for several days, one family at a time.
Almost just dry goodsThe church has no opportunities to store refrigerated goods, and therefore only dry goods can be distributed.
- Those who are already most vulnerable become even more vulnerable, says Eva Clarängen, deacon in Bergsjön's church in Gothenburg.
In the clip below, you see her show how the church works to get the food out.

"Those who are already most vulnerable become even more vulnerable," says Eva Clarängen, deacon in Bergsjön's church in Gothenburg. Photo: SVTMustafa and his wife have six children. They are paperless and have been completely dependent on the food from the church. When the fresh produce has not been available during the spring and summer, they have had to live on bread and pasta.
- Many times we have had to sleep hungry, says Mustafa.
He lives in Sweden illegally with his wife and six children, as their asylum application was rejected. They say it is impossible for them to return to Bosnia because they are Roma.
- The children did not have the right to go to school, we were discriminated against there. We had no home, no house, nothing there. My children were placed in orphanages because we had no home, he says.
He now puts the hope in getting a work permit in Sweden eventually.
The City Mission delivers food bags home to vulnerable families. Now Mustafa's family has also been in contact with the organization, so since a week or so ago they have fresh produce delivered to them once a week.
