The consultant advanced laparoscopic surgery at Rashid Hospital, Dr. Omar Al-Marzouki, stated that the medical team at the hospital succeeded in removing the rickety pancreas of a patient in the third decade of life through the laparoscopic technique as the first operation of its kind at the level of the health sector in Dubai.

He explained that the patient arrived at the hospital suffering from severe infections and laceration of the pancreas and a large collection of pus and fluid in the abdominal area, which negatively affected breathing and heart functions, and the occurrence of a lack of arterial perfusion that caused damage to large parts of the pancreas, which required urgent medical intervention to save her life, Where the doctors began to conduct the necessary tests and accurately diagnose the disease, and give antibiotics in preparation for the operation using the laparoscope. A medical team was formed from the departments of intensive care, internal diseases, general surgery, interventional radiology, anesthesiology and nursing.

Al-Marzouki added that the operation, which took two hours under general anesthesia, during which the damaged parts of the pancreas were removed by means of a surgical endoscope without the need to incise the abdominal area, as the endoscopic access was to the area of ​​inflammation behind the proton membrane from the side of the back and a complete removal of the damaged parts of the pancreas was performed.

He referred to the great success achieved by the operation and the continuous improvement of the patient, who began to recover and prepare to leave the hospital within the next few days.

Al-Marzouki pointed to the multiple symptoms of acute pancreatitis, including pain in the upper abdomen and extending to the back, and the intensity of the pain may increase after eating, and the patient may experience fever, nausea, vomiting and other symptoms, pointing to the risk factors that may lead to acute pancreatitis. These include smoking, obesity, and a family history of pancreatitis.
