People are charging at the danger

This summer, in the face of raging floods, a certain battalion of the Air Force Command in the Eastern Theater Command quickly deployed 50 officers and soldiers to form a flood-fighting assault detachment. They held the dam in the new district of Nanchang City for 25 days and nights, and performed emergency, dangerous and heavy missions 15 times in a row to eliminate them. More than 20 dangerous situations, with the fearless responsibility of "the flood hits me as a levee", and the practice of the concept of "people first, life first".

This is a heroic army. During the flood fighting in 1998, the unit where the battalion was located was rated as "Advanced Unit for Flood Fighting and Rescue" by the original four headquarters, and was awarded the second-class collective merit.

A young man was moved by the officers and soldiers' deeds in fighting floods. On August 5, upon learning that the battalion had completed its flood-fighting mission and withdrew, Tu Jie, a college entrance examination candidate in the new district, wanted to rush to see him off, but the troops had already withdrawn. On the blackboard of a certain elementary school, officers and soldiers sent heartfelt messages and messages, which made Tu Jie, who filled out many military school volunteers, excited. He told the officers and soldiers of the battalion through a video: "I want to be a soldier of the People's Liberation Army and defend my home and country!"

Party members take the lead and stick to the front line

Since the beginning of summer, the water level in the Nanchang section of the northern branch of the Ganjiang River has skyrocketed due to the continuous rainfall in the Ganjiang River Basin and the flooding of Poyang Lake. At about 11 o'clock on July 11, the heavy rain stopped at the beginning, and the temperature on the embankment of Twenty Four Lianwei in the New District of Nanchang City was as high as 40 degrees Celsius, which was abnormally hot. The battalion’s mission was divided into two soldiers. The instructor Zeng Youping led the backbone of the party members down the river embankment and laid a wave-breaking cloth on the side of the water. The instructor of a company Jiang Xuhui led other officers and soldiers to dig ditches on the edge of the joint. The officers and soldiers raced against time, all sweating, rushing to complete the defense and reinforcement task before the peak of the flood.

One wave has not settled, another wave has risen. "There is a bubble spring in the five-star polder section!" Jiang Xuhui, who was the closest to the danger, brought officers and soldiers to the scene as soon as possible. "Flood with mud and sand gushes out from several hot springs. Many officers and soldiers have never seen such a big flood." Jiang Xuhui said.

"I'm good at water, I'll get off first!" Shan Liang, a sergeant who had just joined the party, immediately asked to fight. One, two, three...The backbone of the party members immediately jumped into the water and quickly built a wall of people near a spring. The officers and soldiers carrying sandbags carried more than 50 kilograms of pebbles woven bags and ran back and forth in the muddy paddy fields over 200 meters long. After 6 hours of fierce battle, the officers and soldiers successfully blocked 4 springs.

At 5 o'clock on July 14th, the day just broke. After receiving the sudden fall of the nest at Luzhou Ferry in Qianzhou Village, Lianwei Town, Nanchang City, the officers and soldiers rushed to the front line.

A collapsed zone about 10 meters long and 3 meters wide appeared on the side of the Luzhou Ferry Dam. The cement road on the embankment was hollowed out by the flood. The floodwater was wrapped in mud and gushing out rapidly, and there was a sinkhole under the embankment. Filling and blocking can easily develop into a breach.

After confirming the plan, Jiang Xuhui was the first to jump out of the waist-deep mud puddle, and several party members jumped in shortly thereafter. Mud and floods stirred up, and the silt directly covered the knees. It was extremely difficult for the officers and soldiers to move every step. They tried their best to form a wall of sandbags to block the flood.

"On the battlefield of fighting floods, party members are the banner of the charge. With them, we have the confidence!" Chen Feixiang, a soldier, wrote in his diary: "At that time, everyone was exhausted and exhausted, but when I thought of the more than 80,000 behind him The masses and 180,000 mu of fertile fields seem to have endless energy!"

Rush in the face of danger and show party spirit at critical moments. Eight fighters from the battalion submitted applications for membership on the dam.

Continuous combat to deal with dangerous situations

"Post-00" private soldier Tu Chao, because he was soaked in the flood for a long time, he developed eczema on his leg. The doctor told him not to go into the water anymore, but he still stayed on the front line. "Move one more bag and run faster. It must not be regarded as a sick person!" Tu Chao said. In the face of danger, guarding the embankment is defending the position. How can a soldier easily get off the line of fire.

Continuous battle, people are on the embankment. The average age of the battalion's flood-fighting officers and soldiers was only 25 years old. Their feet were soaked in the flood water and their arms and necks were tanned and tanned. However, they carried a heavy burden on their shoulders.

Private Chen Yiwei has just turned 18 this year and is the youngest flood fighting fighter in the battalion. On July 14th, after six hours of continuous fighting to eliminate the danger of falling nest, Chen Yiwei immediately applied for a transfer to block the bubble spring mission until the end of the mission at 22:00. On this day, he fought vigorously for 14 hours on the dam.

"In our camp, there is no mission impossible!" Chen Yiwei was very excited on the way back to the temporary camp area to rest. Although he is young, he has unlimited potential in his bones. In fact, on the first day of fighting the flood on the embankment, Chen Yiwei followed the squad leader and jumped into the waist-deep flood. He and his comrades built a human wall with their bodies and dealt with the danger for seven hours.

In July, the 24th Lianwei Levee was scorching the sun. The battalion's officers and soldiers excavated more than 1,200 seepage ditches and shipped more than 50,000 sandbags, successfully defeating the floods time and time again.

  The flood does not retreat

On July 20, it rained heavily. The dam of Lianzhuang Village in the new district of Nanchang City is severely scoured by rain and waves, and may collapse at any time. More than 50,000 people and more than 100,000 mu of fertile land are facing serious threats.

The heavy rain began on the night of the 19th and lasted for more than ten hours. The laying of the dam wave cloth can effectively prevent the occurrence of landslide danger, but the laying task can only be completed by artificial launching. In addition, the bad weather and deep flooding have a great risk factor.

"It's raining too much, wait a minute!" During the violent storm, the guide leading the way and the surrounding masses repeatedly suggested the officers and soldiers who were preparing to go into the water and spread the wave cloth.

"Commando, go into the water with me!" After getting the permission of the commander, the third-level sergeant chief Xu Kangle led everyone to quickly complete safety protection work, and jumped into the flood. The rain is swift and the wind is strong, the embankment is steep and the road is slippery, and the turbid waves rolled up by the Hong Tao are daunting, but they cannot stop the fighting steps of the soldiers fighting the flood.

"Sandbags are fixed at the bottom of the anti-wave cloth, buried in the water and compacted..." Xu Kangle reminded his comrades, while rushing to the front of the team, the sludge splashed all over his body.

Corporal Wang Anyi suddenly felt a tingling pain in his palm while placing stone bags under the water to fix the wave cloth. When he withdrew his right hand, he saw blood flowing out of the wound. He gritted his teeth and continued to fight.

On the embankment, the loading and transportation team kept throwing stone bags to their comrades in the flood. Privates Zhang Jianing and Xiong Lechong ran back and forth on the 60-meter-long levee carrying two stone bags on their shoulders at a time. The officers and soldiers worked together and fought continuously, and completed the laying of more than 200 meters of wave cloth in only 4 hours.

"The People's Liberation Army will be able to withstand it when it comes, and we will be safe if we have troops!" the local people praised. (Reporter Ni Guanghui)
