State police say they are concerned that at least 100 people, including children, were trapped in the rubble after a five-story building collapsed in the Mahad region of midwest India.

The building was 47 households, with about 200 inhabited, and it is estimated that there were between 100 and 125 people at the time of the collapse, local lawmakers said.

Officials say one person has been killed to date.

The Mahad area where the accident took place is an industrial city located about 165 kilometers south of Mumbai, the economic center of India.

The cause of the accident is not known exactly, but it is estimated that the old structure did not withstand heavy rains during the Indian monsoon period from June to September.

Authorities say rescue teams have rescued about 30 people amid heavy rain, and local residents are helping them.

In an article on Twitter, Indian Interior Minister Amit Shah said he is praying for the safety of all.
