The indicators continue to deteriorate in France. France has recorded 4,897 additional confirmed cases of Coid-19 contamination within 24 hours, Public Health France announced on Sunday (August 23). This figure marks a significant increase after that of 3,602 announced on Saturday. It is a higher in terms of daily cases detected since the end of confinement in France on May 11.

Stable numbers of hospitalizations and deaths

SPF adds that 4,709 patients with COVID-19 are currently hospitalized, two less than Saturday, including 383 in an intensive care unit.

One death has occurred in the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 30,513 since the start of the epidemic.

SPF reports 33 outbreaks - or clusters - being investigated in the country.

In an interview with the Journal du dimanche, the Minister of Solidarity and Health, Olivier Véran, describes "a risky situation" and fears that the acceleration of contaminations among the youngest will extend to the elderly.

"This is not a resumption of the epidemic because it has never stopped. It was only controlled during the confinement and then the gradual deconfinement. The risk is that after gently removing the cover from the pot, the water boils again, ”he said.
