The initiative comes from a group of actors who usually work in, for example, amusement parks, but who now have difficulty finding jobs.

- The pandemic is stressful, and we hope that a real scare can make people think of other things, says Kenta Iwana, coordinator of the production company behind the performances.

Visitors are offered a fifteen-minute shock therapy where they lie in a coffin with a glass lid in a dark room, which is then attacked by wandering zombies. In the past, they have also carried out horror shows in drive-in format through a garage where the living dead crawl around among the visitors' cars and spray blood on them.

A visitor says he has been "relaxed" by the experience.

- Many events have been canceled due to the coronavirus, and I was looking for a way to get rid of my stress, says 36-year-old Kazushiro Hashiguchi.
