The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation confirmed that the private sector employers can increase the number of daily working hours for their employees, one hour without additional pay, to become nine working hours instead of eight hours, provided that the total weekly working hours do not exceed 48 hours. In response to the questions of a number of visitors to its official website, the Ministry clarified that the increase in the number of working hours per day must be followed by a deduction for the extra hours from the normal working hours, which amount to eight hours, before the end of the week, stressing at the same time that it is not permissible to employ Employment for more than five continuous hours without giving them a break that does not exceed an hour per day.

In detail, the Ministry stated that the total daily working hours in the various workplaces of the private sector amounted to eight working hours, not exceeding 48 hours per week, indicating that the daily working hours decrease by two hours during the month of Ramadan every year, to become six hours.

The Ministry stated - in response to questions from a number of visitors and visitors to its official website and pages on social media platforms - that business entities can increase working hours to nine hours per day, with regard to commercial business, hotel business, canteens, guarding, and other businesses that may be added by a decision of the Minister Human Resources and Emiratisation, provided that there is a commitment to reduce the extra hours from the normal working hours on one of the working days, by the increase of eight hours on the other days, so that the total hours of work per week do not exceed 48 hours.

In response to a question about the maximum additional working hours in the establishments, the Ministry stressed that it is not permissible to increase the working hours to two additional hours per day, provided that the wage is equal to the basic wage corresponding to the normal working hours, with an increase of no less than 25% of the wage .

The Ministry responded to another question regarding the duration of rest periods during working hours, saying: “The daily rest period during working hours is at least one hour, so that the second party does not work five continuous hours without a rest period,” affirming at the same time that the daily rest periods It does not fall within business hours.

She explained that the weekly rest period in private sector companies starts from one day, and it may be increased for more than one day as agreed upon by the two parties, pointing out that the Council of Ministers approved last year granting employees of private sector institutions in the country official holidays similar to those obtained by employees The government sector, including a total of 14 annual official holidays, with the aim of enhancing communication between the government and private sectors, achieving a balance between them, and supporting the national economy in its various sectors.

She stated that the standardization of public holidays contributes to the organization of workflow, enhances the attractiveness of the private sector and the entry of citizens in it, in addition to that it enables workers to plan their vacations in advance, and strengthens social bonds between groups of society, in light of the absence of conflict between leave between the two sectors.

The current year holidays for the public and private sectors, according to the state's official holidays agenda, include 14 days, which are the Eid al-Fitr holiday (days of the 29th of Ramadan to the third of Shawwal), the Arafa holiday (the ninth day of Dhu al-Hijjah), and the Eid al-Adha holiday (from 10 to 12 Dhu al-Hijjah), the Hijri New Year holiday (the first day of Muharram 1442), the Commemoration Day holiday (the first of December), and the National Day holiday (the second and third of next December).
