“Get up Mapping! This is the campaign just launched by civil society organizations in South Kivu to demand the implementation of the recommendations of the Mapping report published in 2010 by the United Nations on the violence in the DRC. These organizations also condemn the threats against Doctor Denis Mukwege, Nobel Peace Prize 2018, for his position on the violence in the east of his country.

From our correspondent in Bukavu, William Basimike

During a press conference at the South Kivu civil society coordination office, these organizations affirmed that there are serious signs of threats against the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize.

“  You have followed the number of positions taken. You followed the interviews of the various personalities. We have even seen petitions circulating against the person of Dr. Mukwege . But we should only remember that Mukwege didn't just talk about Kipupu. He talked about Beni, and if tomorrow there is a violation, he will talk, and we will all talk! “Said Professor Arnold Nyaluma, spokesperson for civil society organizations.

"No follow-up", after the publication of the report

“  It is humanity that is under attack and we all have a duty to denounce it. And naturally every time you denounce, those who feel guilty can only seek to suffocate you but we will not suffocate the truth,  ”he continued.

However, Professor Nyaluma remains convinced that there is no peace without justice. “  Congo is becoming a bastion of impunity with a repeat of crimes that do not speak their name. The United Nations produced a Mapping report which lists the crimes committed between 1993 and 2003. The purpose of this report was to help the Congolese government to search for the perpetrators, to punish them and to give reparation to the victims so that these acts do not happen. never repeat. But it's been 10 years since the report came out, no follow-up!  », He lamented.

Pending the concretization of the Mapping report , the Congolese Initiative for Justice and Peace, ICJP proposes the establishment of specialized mixed chambers to deal with certain crimes which would exceed the competences of the Congolese courts.
