US President Donald Trump said the US military presence in Iraq and the Middle East was the worst mistake in US history. The statement comes hours before a scheduled meeting between Trump and Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi in Washington, which will discuss the presence of US forces in Iraq, along with other files.

Trump added - during a press conference at the White House - that his country is continuing to withdraw its forces from Iraq, despite the opposition of many.

He stressed that his country had withdrawn a large number of soldiers from Iraq, and their number had become few. "We said that we will end those ridiculous eternal wars. I think it is the worst decision in the history of our country."

He continued, "We should never have been in the Middle East, but we withdraw quickly within a period of 3 years, and the exit is not easy. Some agree and many do not."

Trump stressed that his country is building the most powerful army in the world that he has never seen before, and that he hopes that he will not be forced to use his power.

He said that in the past two decades America has played the role of policing in the Middle East, and the countries of this region must now protect themselves.

It is noteworthy that Trump has repeatedly stated the mistake of sending his country's forces to Iraq and the Middle East.

The number of US forces deployed in Iraq has decreased to about 5,000, as part of the US-led coalition to help Iraqi forces combat ISIS.

Military bases in Iraq, which include American forces, have been subjected to several missile attacks since late last October, and the frequency of attacks increased after the Iranian Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, deputy head of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces, were assassinated in an American raid near Baghdad airport on the third of Last January.

And early this year, the Iraqi parliament decided to compel the government to request the withdrawal of American and foreign forces from the country.
