China News Service, August 20. According to Euronet, it is very common for Italian adult children to rely on their parents to subsidize their lives. Recently, the country’s Supreme Court ruled in a related case, stating that parents have the right to refuse subsidies to healthy and capable adult children.

According to the report, five years ago, a 35-year-old male part-time music teacher in Italy wanted his wealthy parents to pay him 300 euros a month, but his parents refused. In the case that the intervention of the mediation was invalid, the local court made a first-instance judgment, ruling that the man had the right to get 300 euros of pocket money from his parents every month, and the parents of the man immediately appealed to the High Court.

The Italian Supreme Court ruled in July that even if adult children are not yet financially independent, they still cannot have the right to automatically receive financial assistance from their parents. The relevant judgment was formally served on August 14.

Maria Giancola, the trial judge of the Court of Appeal of the Supreme Court of Italy, said that the subsidies provided by parents cannot last indefinitely. Adult children must find a way of life on their own. Not being able to find an ideal job can never be a reason for young people to "gnaw on the old" for a long time.

Gian Gassani, the president of the Italian Association of Marriage Lawyers, very much agrees with the Supreme Court’s decision, saying it can encourage young people to make a way out on their own feet.

Gassani said there are hundreds of thousands of similar cases. One-third of divorce cases are related to the financial support of adult children, and the court has set some restrictions to prevent children over 40 from constantly asking for subsidies from the elderly.

Gassani said that nowadays, young Italians urgently need to establish a courageous entrepreneurial spirit and a more courageous sense of adventure, to develop their careers and create a better future. If young people are looking forward to their parents’ subsidies every day, these young people will never find their own social and life values. (Boyuan)
