A violent assault occurred on Sunday at the Canet cemetery in the 14th arrondissement of Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), as reported by the daily La Provence . In the early afternoon, an 82-year-old man and his 69-year-old wife went there to pray at the family tomb. It was then that an individual appeared and threw himself on the octogenarian to tear off his gold chain.

The attacker, in his twenties, then walked up to the woman to steal two chains from her before fleeing. Traumatized by this scene of rare violence, the couple filed a complaint Tuesday afternoon at the Marignane police station. The northern division of public security was responsible for the investigation, the daily said.
