The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City in the Department of Municipalities and Transport announced the completion of the project to establish and develop sporting pedestrian paths in separate areas on the island of Abu Dhabi and the mainland, at a total financial cost of more than 106 million dirhams, which witnessed the implementation of its work in 29 sites, the construction of bicycle lanes with a length of about 14.12 km, and tracks It ran 39.31 km, in addition to creating 145 rest areas.
The municipality stated that, through the implementation of this project - which is part of its plan to implement all pedestrian and cycling paths according to the approved master plan of paths in Abu Dhabi and the mainland - it aims to strengthen many of the desired positive aspects, such as encouraging community members to practice walking and jogging sports. And cycling, and stimulating competitions related to these sports, in addition to encouraging the public to use bicycles as a clean and environmentally friendly means of transportation, which supports public health and makes the practice of these sports a lifestyle for many.
The project's works in 15 locations within Abu Dhabi Island included the construction of running tracks of about 11,254 km, bicycle paths of about 14,120 km, as well as the construction of 60 rest areas in separate places along these tracks.
The works also included the construction and development of a cycling and jogging path on the Arabian Gulf Street (Al-Funteer Walk), which included the rehabilitation of running tracks of about 5.2 km, and bicycle paths of about 8.8 km, in addition to the construction and installation of a number of restrooms and exercise places in 12 separate areas. .
As for the project works on the mainland (north), which were implemented in 6 sites, they witnessed the construction of running tracks with a total length of about 12,910 km, in addition to the establishment of 40 rest areas, while the works of 8 sites on the mainland (south) included the construction of lanes. Running with a total length of 15,145 km, as well as creating 40 rest areas.
The project also included the installation of lighting devices in all tracks, the installation of exercise equipment in the exercise areas, as well as the installation of floor tiles and street furniture, the implementation of the accompanying cosmetic agriculture and shading works, in addition to preparing the necessary infrastructure works for the devices for the rapid sale of water and juices in the rest areas. And gatherings (oases) and at intersections and pedestrian crossings.
