Trump: America will return all sanctions on Iran

US President Donald Trump confirmed that "America will impose rapid UN sanctions on Iran," adding, in a press conference today, that the sanctions will be under the "Snapback" mechanism.

Trump said: "I have asked Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to notify the United Nations Security Council that the United States intends to re-impose practically all UN sanctions on Iran that are pending until today."

The "Snapback" mechanism allows the re-imposition of all UN sanctions on Iran, if a state party to the nuclear agreement concluded with Tehran in 2015 asks for Tehran's violation of the obligations stipulated in the agreement.

"Iran will never acquire nuclear weapons," Trump stressed. He added that it had violated the nuclear deal in a major way since 2015.

And he considered that "the nuclear agreement that Obama signed with Iran was stupid," adding: "The agreements signed by Obama were not in the interest of our country."

"Iran no longer has money to finance Al Qaeda and terrorist groups," he said. He stressed that "Washington will hold China and Russia responsible if they try to prevent the re-imposition of UN sanctions on Iran."
