Goita was one of five military personnel who appeared on Malian television to present the program of the rebel military. Goita served in the special forces units of the Armed Forces of Mali.
Mali’s President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, previously arrested by the rebel military, has announced his resignation, as well as the dissolution of parliament and government. It was reported that the Russians were not injured in the coup in Mali.
