• Cybercrime: The Police warn about a dangerous scam to rob you through the computer

The so-called 'Operation Boxman' has allowed the Civil Guard in Granada to dismantle a gang of 13 hackers that had executed 47 scams making fraudulent use of credit cards through the more than 770,000 credentials they had bought on the deep Internet. The leaders, two minors , have already been detained while the other 11 are waiting to be located in other parts of Spain.

The youths formed an organized and expanding criminal group that spread throughout the national geography and communicated through the Internet. The modus operandi was always the same, buying passwords - with a user - that were offered on the deep web with cryptocurrencies to obtain bank details through said information. Once they got access, they took the money to buy products that they later resold at lower prices in virtual stores or that they used for their own consumption.

According to sources from the Armed Institute, one of the detainees was an acquaintance of the National Police, a fact that they realized after verifying the identity of the minor, detained last April after breaking the security of the Madrid health service and the public system of bicycle rental of the Madrid City Council, BiciMAD.

Public bikes

The news has been related to the young man for the information that emerged in a state of alarm notifying the arrest of a minor under 16 years of age in the capital for having exploded the public bike system . According to the press release of the National Police, the detainee had assaulted "the security of numerous public and private entities" since last year.

The young man was arrested at his home and released days later, although that did not stop him from his ambitions to continue committing crimes. In fact, the group would have carried out scams abroad, with targets detected in Germany and the US . Its location has not been a complicated task for the Technological Research Team (EDITE) of the Civil Guard, since in their desire to take center stage they had published video recordings on their social networks explaining the procedure of their misdeeds, which reported thousands of new followers.

Among the loot they accumulated, they have already been recovered valued at more than 12,000 euros that had been bought with the scammed cards. More than 6,000 euros in cryptocurrencies have also been seized with which those investigated acquired cards and data to carry out cyber scams. The agents have emphasized the "youth" of the arrested hackers , as well as "their great knowledge of the network and their high capacity to commit crimes."

In his curriculum, according to sources from the National Police, there are also scams such as the charge of 485 euros in the account of a pensioner after buying branded sneakers and other products that left her account empty. Another example is the creation of hundreds of automated accounts to enjoy free trials on streaming platforms .

The crimes of fraud over the Internet increased up to 70% during confinement, so the Civil Guard and expert groups recommend, among other things, using complex passwords and changing them often, keeping the usual providers, not using Wi-fi networks public or protect bank numbers.
