[Explanation] There is a group of doctors who rarely appear in front of patients and cannot hear the gratitude and praise from the patients. However, in the new crown pneumonia epidemic, they have to be in close contact with the new crown virus for a long time. On August 19th is the Chinese Physician's Day, two laboratory doctors told their stories to reporters from China News Service.

[Explanation] Chen Kelin is a member of the nucleic acid testing team of Beijing Tiantan Hospital and the head of the PCR laboratory. She once studied clinical medicine and told reporters that laboratory medicine is very different from clinical medicine. In contrast, laboratory medicine is more like a "behind-the-scenes" work, and most patients don't know this department.

Maybe in the minds of ordinary people, you might think that you are doing blood tests, urine tests, and stool tests. Just this department. But in fact, there are more clinicians of this kind who are going to make a correct diagnosis for the patients. In fact, they rely on us a lot. Because of many diseases now, his diagnosis is more complicated. It also depends on many, many such auxiliary examinations.

[Explanation] In the Spring Festival of 2020, the new crown epidemic broke out, and nucleic acid test results became an essential part of diagnosing patients with new crown pneumonia. For Chen Kelin, who has been in business for 11 years, this is also the first time she has faced the test of highly infectious diseases.

(At the very beginning) In that week, in fact, I often couldn't sleep at all at night, because I had to think about a lot of things. If you didn't think of a detail, you might make mistakes in the end.

[Explanation] Chen Kelin's colleague and head of the nucleic acid testing team of Tiantan Hospital, Lu Hong, has experienced testing during the SARS period and is a veritable "veteran". The first positive sample of the new crown virus detected by Tiantan Hospital came from her and two other colleagues.

In fact, if you are positive, you are very practical, just like we have been doing it. If there is no positive result, then you must doubt whether there is a problem with your process. And in fact, after the specimen came, you didn't know that it was negative and positive, you have to treat it as positive.

[Explanation] As the person in charge, Lu Hong is more worried about the young colleagues in the group.

There may be 7000-10000 (samples) on that day. Because the results are all required within 24 hours, so far we have all the results on the same day, almost 12 hours. The sample size during that time was indeed too large. I'm actually quite worried. But your own person must not have an accident or fall.

[Explanation] When performing nucleic acid tests, laboratory physicians need to be in close contact with live viruses, so they are extra vigilant for headaches and brain fever. Chen Kelin once had a fever.

I would definitely be a little scared, because I was doing this job after all, but then I thought about it, I didn't have any epidemiological history, and I was well protected, and I didn't say that there was, for example, laboratory contamination. At night they told me it was negative. In fact, I didn't feel very excited, or felt relieved. When I really cry, I want to come to work. Everyone was very tired, and then suddenly went to rest at this time, and I felt it was really true.

[Explanation] The ups and downs during the epidemic also gave Chen Kelin and Lu Hong a new understanding of the work of laboratory physicians. They said that laboratory physicians must also have clinical thinking and learn to communicate with patients in order to better accomplish it. Inspection work. On the eve of Physician's Day, Tiantan Hospital opened an outpatient clinic, and the laboratory physicians began to move to the "front of the stage."

This is the first time I have worked in 19 years, except for the internship, to have such a positive communication with the patient. I feel that when the patient sits in front of me for the first time, I am still a little nervous. But I feel that after I was able to see the doctor for the first time, I was actually quite excited, and then I quickly saved all those photos and materials, and I will use it as a very valuable asset in the future.

If we go to the front, if we can better communicate with the patient, then the samples he keeps can be more accurate. So it may be more helpful for our testing. For my identity as a medical examiner, I think it is also a very good improvement and change.

This year's epidemic has changed me to a great extent, and it has also made me grow a lot quickly. In fact, when the laboratory physician is doing the test inside, he will stand from the perspective of clinical thinking and consider some issues. When the result is, for example, a positive result, our first thought is that we need to communicate with the clinic. , We are going to see if this person’s symptoms are consistent with this result. Through this epidemic, as a laboratory physician, I feel proud, two words proud, and four words very proud.
