All the dogs are now taken care of by shelter associations, pending a legal decision on their future. Their owner is heard for an alleged offense of animal abuse.

The Spanish Civil Guard announced on Tuesday that it had rescued 41 starving and dehydrated dogs from a farm whose owner is accused of animal abuse.

"41 dogs were saved"

The agents of this police force entered on Sunday in a farm near the village of Quintanar de la Orden in the central region of Toledo, after receiving a complaint from an association for the defense of animals, said a spokeswoman for the Civil Guard.
"Thanks to this information, 41 dogs could be saved, they presented serious symptoms of malnutrition, physical weakness and dehydration", explained the Civil Guard in a statement. Twenty-nine dogs required treatment with intravenous injections, she said.

Animals supported by associations

All the dogs are now taken care of by shelter associations, pending a legal decision on their future. The Civil Guard heard from their mistress for an alleged offense of animal abuse. "What is not clear is why she had so many dogs if it is to keep them in such bad conditions," the spokesperson commented.
