The cinema was planned to be located on the parking lot north of the Turinge Bridge, next door to Tom tits' experimental workshop. And in April, it became clear that the construction company Erik Hembergs fastighets AB had been given the opportunity to develop Spinnrocken 2 in central Södertälje together with Svensk bio as a tenant. In addition to the cinema, the company also wanted to build a parking garage, restaurants and offices.

But now the plans are threatened when the construction company pulls the handbrake.

- The pandemic has put obstacles in the original idea of a cinema, says Per Alexandersson, CEO of Erik Hembergs fastighets AB, who confirms that they no longer own that issue.

However, he emphasizes that there is still an interest in the property and that the discussion with the municipality continues.

- We try to find a form where everyone feels satisfied with the opportunities and risks that exist with this project.

"Did not dare"

The municipality of Södertälje is trying to tone it all down.

- We have a continued dialogue with Erik Hemberg, they did not dare to proceed with the agreement based on the corona situation where Swedish cinema has lost 90 percent of its revenue. But our ambition is for there to be a cinema on the site, says Andreas Klingström, acting city planning director in Södertälje municipality.

How do you proceed if the construction company does not change?

- Primarily, we continue our discussions with this player, but if we see that there is no passable road, then we must open up for more players.

The chairman of the municipal board, Boel Godner (S), was one of the first to cheer when the plans for a cinema were trumpeted in April.

The plans are slowed down now, what do you say about that?

- It's too early to say anything. I hope and believe that it will be a cinema. I am very concerned about that, it is the single largest asset that the people of Södertälje have wanted in the last ten years, she says.
