A boost for Michel Sarran. The Toulouse commercial court on Tuesday dismissed the star chef, who asked Axa to compensate his operating losses due to confinement following the coronavirus pandemic. In addition to his two-star restaurant in Toulouse, the native of Gers is known for his participation in the jury of the Top Chef program , on M6.

“This decision was expected because it is the first judgment [in France] on the merits of our standard insurance contract, proposed by general insurance agents, welcomed Axa in a press release. We were therefore heard by the court which recognizes the validity of our exclusion clause. "

An epidemic case

In its judgment, the court indicates that "the extension of guarantee relating to operating losses following an administrative closure due to an epidemic is accompanied by an exclusion clause which is applicable in this case". For Axa, "the insurance contract in question today very explicitly provides that collective administrative closures caused by an epidemic affecting several establishments in the same department are not covered".

At the end of June, Axa announced that it had reached an agreement with several hundred restaurant owners to compensate “a substantial part” of their operating losses linked to the Covid-19 crisis.

"Angry", Michel Sarran indicated on France Bleu Occitanie that he intended to appeal this decision.
