Yesterday, dozens of former leaders, health experts and scientists called on the G20 countries to deal with the crisis in the education sector around the world to avoid the loss of millions of children of the "Corona generation".

The former leaders urged the G20 to act urgently to deal with the "global educational emergency" caused by the Corona pandemic.

And they wrote in an open letter: "With more than a billion children out of schools due to the closure, there is now a real and realistic danger that the public health crisis will create a Corona generation without education, and its opportunities are permanently damaged."

They pointed out that many of the poorest children around the world were "deprived of education" and denied access to the Internet.

Among the signatories are the 275 former British prime ministers Gordon Brown, Tony Blair, and John Major, as well as former German President Horst Köhler and former United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

They noted the crisis of an estimated 30 million of the poorest children around the world who may never return to school.

• More than a billion children are out of school due to the closure.
