Overseas Network, August 18th. Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party and Somaliland in East Africa staged a farce of setting up so-called “representative offices” in each other, but Somaliland’s independent state status has not been recognized internationally. Was criticized by many parties inside and outside the island. Among the many oppositions, the DPP authorities still went their own way. On the 17th, the so-called "Taiwan Representative Office in Somaliland" was established. The leader of the DPP authorities, Tsai Ing-wen, also boasted that this was an "important moment in bilateral relations," which triggered a foul of public opinion.

The Taiwan authorities have encountered "an avalanche wave of severance of diplomatic relations" in recent years. At present, there are only 15 so-called "states with diplomatic relations" left. The unwilling DPP authorities "make troubles" from time to time. According to Taiwan’s "Central News Agency", the so-called "Taiwan Representative Office in Somaliland" was established on the 17th, and Taiwan’s foreign affairs department once called it "official."

The leader of the DPP authorities, Tsai Ing-wen, bragged that this is an important moment in the so-called "bilateral relations", and also hyped up "strengthening cooperation with Somaliland and jointly responding to global challenges."

Ironically, this Somaliland is not actually a country, and its “national identity” is not recognized by other countries and the United Nations internationally. The Somali government insists that Somaliland is an inalienable part of the country. In the face of this embarrassing reality, the DPP authorities’ approach is tantamount to "reporting the group to keep warm."

Many Taiwanese netizens are dissatisfied with the hype of the DPP authorities. A Taiwanese netizen said, "I finally understand the meaning of idioms saying dreams", "I'm just exulting myself", and "I feel like being there again."

Some netizens sarcastically, "Somaliland and Taiwan are not members of the United Nations, and they are not members of the United Nations. They should be embraced warmly." Wu Zhaoxie (the head of Taiwan's foreign affairs department) found it after searching the world."

Earlier, Wang Shushen, director of the Taiwan-US Relations Office of the Taiwan Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, told Overseas.com that Taiwan’s approach was a manifestation of the Tsai Ing-wen’s “Taiwan independence diplomacy” and used Somaliland to show the DPP’s ability to expand international space. However, Somaliland is not recognized internationally and cannot help Taiwan authorities participate in international organizations. After Tsai came to power, there were only 15 "countries with diplomatic relations" and only one in Africa. The gradual decrease will not change.

Regarding similar actions by the DPP authorities, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council has stated many times before that this will only fully expose its political nature of seeking "independence" internationally on various occasions and under various names, and advise the DPP authorities. Give up the "Taiwan independence" separatist plot and stop making so-called "diplomatic" breakthroughs in the international arena. We also urge relevant countries or regions to abide by the one-China principle and not provide any stage or convenience for the DPP authorities to seek "independence" internationally.
