316 thousand seat belt violations within two years

Seat belts have a role in saving many lives. Archives

Traffic departments violated 316,64 drivers and passengers at the state level during the past two years, due to the failure to fasten seat belts inside the vehicle, according to Ministry of Interior statistics, while Abu Dhabi Police informed that the fine imposed on the passenger is worth 400 dirhams and the driver of the vehicle bears it.

In detail, the Ministry of Interior stated that neglecting to fasten seatbelts leads to an exacerbation of injuries in traffic accidents, especially for those sitting in the back seats who do not fasten their seatbelts, making them vulnerable to injury and death, as well as an increased risk of death for front seat passengers.

Ministry statistics revealed that 316 thousand and 64 drivers and passengers were violated at the state level due to failure to fasten seat belts, as 123 thousand and 12 drivers and 26 thousand and 77 passengers were violated last year, compared to 96 thousand and 714 drivers and 70 thousand and 261 passengers violated in 2018.

The high indicators of injuries and deaths in traffic accidents due to the failure to fasten seat belts prompted the Federal Traffic Council to oblige rear seat passengers to fasten seatbelts and apply financial fines, and record four black traffic points against violators, while the Council included in its recommendations height along with age and the opinion of the traffic policeman. As a specification for identifying persons who are required to wear a seat belt while driving.

The Council attributed the adoption of the seat belt recommendation to the concern raised by the indicator of passenger deaths and injuries in traffic accidents, especially those sitting in the back seats who do not fasten the seatbelts, making them vulnerable to injury and death, as well as the increased risk of death for front seat passengers.

And specialized international studies have shown that the risk of death of a passenger in the front seat when the seat belt is fastened increases if an accident occurs and the passenger is not in the back seat fastening the belt, as scientific studies have shown that when an accident occurs, the car stops suddenly while the passenger is pushed at the same speed as the car forward. The car was traveling at a speed of 100 km / h before the accident, so the passenger who is not using the seat belt will push forward with a force of between 1000 and 1500 kg, which will cause death or harm to himself and other passengers in the car by hitting them or smashing the car windows Or dash it outside.

Studies have shown that the seat belt has a role in saving many lives, especially that the basic idea of the seat belt depends on preventing the driver or passenger from hitting the steering wheel or rushing out of the car through the windshield when the car stops suddenly due to any reason, because the passenger’s body gains The car speeds without the ability to stop suddenly, and this is known as the principle of inertia.

For its part, Abu Dhabi Police confirmed to “Emirates Today” that fastening passengers to the seat belt is a responsibility of the vehicle’s driver, as he must oblige passengers to fasten the belt before starting the trip, explaining that if the violation occurred on any of the passengers, the driver bears the fine, which is Dirhams 400 without traffic points, but in the event that the violation is committed by the driver himself, he will bear the fine, which is 400 dirhams, in addition to four traffic points.

Abu Dhabi Police called on drivers and passengers to use seat belts, to preserve the safety of everyone, and to enhance efforts made in traffic safety, noting that the use of seat belts helps to avoid most injuries in traffic accidents and reduces complications from collisions.
