Ministry statistics revealed that 316 thousand and 64 drivers and passengers were violated at the state level due to failure to fasten seat belts, as 123 thousand and 12 drivers and 26 thousand and 77 passengers were violated last year, compared to 96 thousand and 714 drivers and 70 thousand and 261 passengers violated in 2018.
The high indicators of injuries and deaths in traffic accidents due to the failure to fasten seat belts prompted the Federal Traffic Council to oblige rear seat passengers to fasten seatbelts and apply financial fines, and record four black traffic points against violators, while the Council included in its recommendations height along with age and the opinion of the traffic policeman. Abu Dhabi Police called on drivers and passengers to use seat belts, to preserve the safety of everyone, and to enhance efforts made in traffic safety, noting that the use of seat belts helps to avoid most injuries in traffic accidents and reduces complications from collisions.
