This is shown by figures compiled by the trade association Swedish Trade from Statistics Sweden, Statistics Sweden. During the second quarter of this year, the hardware and construction trade increased their sales by almost 20 percent compared with the same period last year. The sports trade, where everything from bicycles to hiking boots is available, increased by 11.1 percent and home furnishings by 10.4 percent.

Here are the big losers

If you look at the figures for June alone, which are so far preliminary, the picture is strengthened. Both iron and construction, the sports trade and home furnishings then grew further.

The big losers so far are the clothing, footwear and jewelery trade, which has lost large parts of its sales.

- A little simplified, you can say that during the corona pandemic, we have cared more about what our homes look like and less about what we ourselves look like, says Johan Davidson, chief economist at Swedish Trade.

- Sports and leisure have received a very clear boost now, especially in June when the majority of the Swedish population is on holiday in Sweden.

"Investing more in housing"

That the construction trade is progressing strongly can also be explained by the fact that Swedes spend more time at home, says Johan Davidson.

- This is because we are simply investing more in our homes now that more people are working from home and may have had more time to take on different projects, he says.
