At this stage, these are consultations with each political actor who has been consulted separately. The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) thus wants to relaunch the dialogue so that the presidential election of October 18 in Guinea takes place in peace. “  Stability  ” is a priority for Jean-Claude Kassi Brou, President of the ECOWAS Commission.

A point of agreement noted by the presidential movement: ECOWAS confirms that it will continue to provide technical assistance to the Independent National Electoral Commission (Céni).

A demand from the opposition : no third term for Alpha Condé

On the side of the National Front for the Defense of the Constitution (FNDC) and the opposition, we are open to dialogue but with one requirement: no third term for the outgoing president.

The ECOWAS seems to favor stability, to the detriment of democratic alternation  ," notes with bitterness a FNDC executive who is worried about the silence of ECOWAS, on the debate around the possible third term of Alpha Condé.

Opposition leaders also believe that the file is unreliable. They demand the cancellation of the double ballot of March 22 and propose to couple the presidential election with the legislative ones.

“  We are flexible on the deadline. We can accept a shift in the electoral calendar, the main thing being to be able to organize a free and transparent ballot  ”, indicates an opponent.

These proposals expressed by each party should make it possible to prepare a mission of the heads of state of ECOWAS. No date has yet been set.

In a statement, the American embassy in Conakry, encouraged the Guinean authorities to "  engage in a free, fair and transparent process  ".
