The Assembly of the Representatives of the People in Tunisia (Parliament) condemned the UAE's declaration of normalization of relations with Israel, considering that this step is an infringement of the rights of the Palestinian people and a flagrant threat to the state of Arab and Islamic consensus, especially at the popular level.

In a statement issued this evening, Monday, the Presidency of Parliament reaffirmed its principled stand with the Palestinian issue, the first issue of the Arab and Islamic world, the advocates of freedom, those who reject colonialism and settlement and the violation of state sovereignty, and those who support the right of peoples to self-determination.

And she condemned the bad consequences of this step, especially in this circumstance in which there are frequent manifestations of aggression against the Palestinian people, as well as the Zionist entity's pursuit of a policy of expansion and annexation of more lands, in a way that consecrates a new geographical and demographic reality threatening the Palestinian existence.

The Presidency of Parliament also reminded of the positions of permanent support for all the Tunisian people, with their national organizations, their societal fabric, and their representatives in the Assembly of the Representatives of the People, denouncing the settlement and colonial policies, and in support of Palestinian rights.

The Tunisian parliament called on the Arab Parliament, the Union of Arab Parliaments, regional and international parliaments, and supporters of freedom and the rights of peoples in self-determination in all countries of the world to condemn what happened and to issue clear positions in support of Palestinian rights.

It is noteworthy that a number of political parties and organizations in Tunisia condemned the Emirati move.

Agreement and declaration

Last Thursday, US President Donald Trump announced that an agreement had been reached between the UAE and Israeli parties, describing it as a historic agreement and tremendous progress.

The announcement comes as the culmination of a long series of cooperation, coordination, communication and exchange of visits between the two countries.

The agreement was met with widespread Palestinian condemnation from the leadership and prominent factions, such as Hamas, Fatah and Islamic Jihad, and the UAE became the first Gulf country to establish official relations with Israel, and the third Arab country after Egypt and Jordan.
