- The only money we have is the one that the market is willing to pay. Now it is not possible to get what we got two years ago, says the dairy manager at Grådö dairy Staffan Eklöv.

He does not rule out that one or some of the current milk suppliers will leave organic production and switch to conventional milk production as it is cheaper and organic farmers now do not receive compensation for their additional costs.

There may be various reasons why the demand for organic milk, after many years of growth, has now declined.

Johan Daniels is an organic milk farmer in Orsa. He has 80 dairy cows and delivers 2,500 liters of organic milk a day and intends to continue on that track for the time being. He has a theory as to why demand has fallen:

- There is a trend that people become vegetarians and then vegans who do not drink milk, he says.
