However, Urumqi officials emphasized on the 17th that zero new additions do not mean zero risk, and the current epidemic in Xinjiang is still uncertain. At present, there are still more than 9,000 close contacts in Urumqi who are still undergoing intensive medical observation, and there are still 126 asymptomatic infections. The possibility of new confirmed cases in the next few days cannot be ruled out.

For the first time in the past month, there have been zero new confirmed cases in mainland China

  The National Health Commission of China announced on the 17th that on the 16th, 22 new cases were confirmed in mainland China, all of which were imported from abroad, with a total of 2,300 confirmed cases imported from abroad. On the same day, 37 cases of asymptomatic infection were newly added, and 1 case was converted into a confirmed case, and 351 cases of asymptomatic infection were still under medical observation.

  As of 24:00 on the 16th, there are currently 612 confirmed cases in Mainland China, 79,603 cases have been cured and discharged, 4634 cases have died, and a total of 84,849 confirmed cases have been reported. A total of 5,010 confirmed cases have been notified from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan (4480 in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, 46 in Macau Special Administrative Region, and 484 in Taiwan).

  The newly confirmed cases in mainland China on the 16th were all imported from abroad. Since Xinjiang reported the first confirmed case of the epidemic on July 16, it has achieved zero new local cases for the first time.   On the 16th, 22 newly imported confirmed cases in mainland China were reported by Guangdong, Yunnan, Shanghai, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Fujian and Shandong.

  There were 8 cases in Guangdong, 5 cases were from Saudi Arabia, 2 cases were from the Philippines, and 1 case was from the UAE. On the same day, Guangdong also added 24 cases of imported asymptomatic infections. According to the Guangdong Provincial Health Commission, the above-mentioned cases were found at ports of entry or isolation points, and were quarantined for observation after entry.

  In order to strengthen the epidemic prevention and control of imported frozen meat products and aquatic products, the Shenzhen Epidemic Prevention and Control Headquarters issued an announcement on the 17th that from August 18, 2020, Shenzhen will establish a centralized supervision warehouse for imported frozen products.
