How to know when it is safe and not to provide your card details online? And is it ok to save the information when the question arises when buying, for example when booking a hotel room?

Inquisitive

First and foremost, you should do a critical review of the page you are on. Look for spelling mistakes and make an overall assessment of the page, does it look serious? Most e-commerce sites use something called secure connection. This means that the information that you as a buyer leave behind is encrypted. Then the address has a padlock symbol and starts with "https". Then there is also a symbol for "secure e-commerce certification" for online stores that you can look for. / Erik Hoffman, head of preliminary investigation at the Police's fraud center region North.

Hey! Is it possible to say any specific factors that increase the risk of being exposed to online fraud? For example, time of day, weekends or at the end of the month in connection with salary.

Lars

Hi Lars!

We are seeing a certain increase in salary fraud, but it could just as easily be due to people being more inclined to buy shortly after receiving their salary.

Online fraud seems to be increasing, can it be seen that the number of convicted / prosecuted for such crimes is also increasing?

Golge

At the moment we are unfortunately not having any statistics on just that. Many who commit fraud are instead convicted of money laundering. This is because the investigation can not always show who has committed the fraud itself, but that we can follow the money and thus see that people receive money that originates from criminal activities.

Hi, I get a number of emails every day from fraudsters who with very aggressive methods will try to force me to buy a lot of things, and that I am now "given the last chance" before they take action. I also receive emails where it is written that I will pick up packages. I estimate that I receive about 20 such emails daily. Direct threatening emails come a few times a week. I have tried to get rid of them by blocking them, but it fails. What / who can help me stop this?

Anja

Hey Anja!

What you could do is create a new email address that you only use for private email conversations. The person you give out when you register on social media or similar sites will be charged with this type of "junk e-mail". / Erik Hoffman, head of preliminary investigation at the Police's fraud center region North.
