Applications for a new system to certify professionals in archive management will begin next month. The government wants to help prevent the recurrence of inappropriate handling of official documents that are frequently pointed out.

In order to manage official documents properly, a system called "archivist", which is certified by the National Archives, will be newly started from this year.

Applications for those who wish to be certified will be submitted from next month, and we are aiming for certification of about 1,000 people by 2026 when the new National Archives is scheduled to open.

Those who can apply are those who have acquired specialized knowledge of official documents and document preservation at graduate school and have some practical experience in local governments.

Then, if it is certified by a document examination, from next year, as an "archivist", it will be in charge of the management of official documents by ministries and local governments.
