The Russian State Scientific Center for Virology and Biotechnology has begun implementing the second phase of testing a new vaccine against the emerging corona virus.

"Russia Today" website quoted the head of the Federal Authority for Consumer Rights and Citizen Welfare, "Ross Potribnadzor", Anna Popova, as telling reporters in Novosibirsk yesterday that all volunteers participating in the tests are in good health.

"Yes, of course the second stage has started," Popova added. Clinical tests are underway, and all volunteers specially selected are in good health. All those who received the vaccine had no reactions, and there was not even the slightest redness at the injection site.

In response to a question about the difference between the recently registered Gamalia vaccine and the “Victor” vaccine, Popova said that Russia, like any other country, must have several different vaccines against the Corona virus. She explained, "It is absolutely certain that every country, including Russia, must have several different vaccines, which is what we are doing today." Earlier, "Ross Potribnadzor", the supervisor of the work of the "Victor" Center, reported that 86 volunteers will receive the vaccine in the second phase of clinical tests.

On July 24, the Victor Center obtained permission to conduct clinical tests on volunteers.

The first volunteer was vaccinated on July 27. Five volunteers aged between 18 and 30 years participated in the first phase of clinical testing. The head of "Victor" Rinat Maxotov stated that production of the vaccine will start in November.

Russia announced the registration of 4,892 new cases of coronavirus yesterday, bringing the total number to 927,745 cases, which is the fourth highest toll in the world.

The Russian Corona Crisis Management Center said that 55 people had died of the virus in the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 15740.
